
Bangladesh’s government does not believe the current environment is favourable for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India, Foreign Ministry spokesperson AKM Shahidul Karim said at a brief briefing on Sunday afternoon, 16 August.

Senior Indian government officials have said Bangladesh’s renewed request to extradite deposed former prime minister Sheikh Hasina will have to be placed before India’s judiciary, with the final decision resting with the courts rather than the government.
