A low-pressure area may form again over the Bay of Bengal, while monsoon conditions are likely to bring rain to all eight divisions of Bangladesh on Sunday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Daytime temperatures may fall slightly across the country, though night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

In its five-day forecast issued on the evening of 22 August, the Meteorological Department said a low-pressure area may develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The extended axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and the southern part of Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is currently fairly active over Bangladesh and remains in a moderate state over the northern Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in different divisions of the country on Sunday.

Many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may receive light to moderate rain. Some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions may also see light to moderate rain.

Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is also possible in parts of the country. During this period, daytime temperatures may decrease slightly nationwide, while night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.

In a separate forecast issued this morning for Dhaka and adjoining areas, the Meteorological Department said the sky may remain partly cloudy to temporarily cloudy until 1:00pm. Light rain or thundershowers are also possible in the area.

Southerly or southwesterly winds may blow at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour during that period. Temperatures in Dhaka may remain nearly unchanged on Sunday. Dhaka and nearby areas recorded 4 millimetres of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
