
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has taken oath as the 23rd President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 7:30pm.
Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal administered the oath.
Upon his arrival at Bangabhaban, the president-elect was welcomed by the Military Secretary to the President and other senior officials.
They escorted him to VVIP Chair-1, where he was received by Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was then welcomed by the acting president at the octagonal before taking his designated seat.
Later, the acting president and the president-elect proceeded to the Credential Hall, where a band troop greeted them with a ceremonial tune.
The ceremony formally began with the national anthem, following which the distinguished guests took their seats.
The Cabinet Division secretary then initiated the oath-taking proceedings with the permission of the acting president.
The ceremonial proceedings opened with recitation from the Holy Quran. The Cabinet Division secretary subsequently presented the relevant President Election Acts and formally requested the acting speaker to administer the oath and the president-elect to take it.
Following the oath-taking, the President and the outgoing acting president exchanged seats, symbolising the formal transfer of office. After the swearing-in, Mirza Fakhrul signed the oath of office and oath of secrecy.
The ceremony concluded with the playing of the national anthem.
The chief justice, members of the cabinet, foreign diplomats, members of parliament, and senior civil and military officials attended the ceremony.
