Govt. Publishes Class XI Admission Policy: Applications Open September 2, Classes Start 23

Bangladesh’s online application process for Class XI admission for the current year will begin on September 2 and continue until September 10, with classes scheduled to start on September 23. Admission will again be based on Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results, and no admission test will be held.

The first-phase selection results will be published at 8pm on September 17. The admission process will then be completed between September 20 and September 22, before classes begin on September 23. The online application fee has been set at Tk 220.

The information was announced in the Class XI admission policy issued on Monday by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. The policy was signed by ASM Shahriar Jahan, Deputy Secretary (Government College-1).

According to the policy, students who passed SSC or equivalent examinations in the year the results were published and in the previous two consecutive years will be eligible to apply online. Students who passed under foreign boards will be allowed to apply after the Dhaka Education Board determines the equivalence of their certificates.

Students who passed from the science group will be eligible for admission into science, humanities or business studies. Students from humanities and business studies will be allowed to apply within their own groups as well as each other’s groups, while students from all groups may apply to Islamic education, home science and music. Students from technical and madrasa boards will also be eligible for admission into the corresponding groups under the general education boards, in line with the policy.

For admissions, 93 percent of seats at each college will remain open to general students on merit. Five percent of seats will be reserved for children of freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters. Another 1 percent will be reserved for children of officers and employees working at the Ministry of Education, and 1 percent for children of those employed at departments and agencies under the ministry, making a total of 2 percent reserved seats at institutions in metropolitan areas, divisional headquarters and district headquarters.

If suitable candidates are not found under any quota, those seats will be filled from the merit list. The quota system will apply only to the 2026-2027 academic year.

In cases where applicants have the same GPA, merit position will be determined based on total marks. For the science group, if total marks are also equal, marks in general mathematics, higher mathematics or biology will be considered first.

If the tie remains unresolved, marks in English, physics and chemistry will be considered in sequence. For humanities and business studies, ties will be broken based on marks in English, mathematics and Bangla. Students of school and college institutions or their own institutions will receive priority for admission to their institutions, subject to meeting eligibility conditions.

For MPO-listed institutions, the maximum session charge and admission fee in Dhaka Metropolitan have been set at Tk 5,000 for both Bangla and English medium. The maximum is Tk 3,000 in other metropolitan areas, Tk 2,000 at district headquarters and Tk 1,500 in upazila or suburban areas.

For non-MPO or partially MPO-listed institutions, the maximum fee in Dhaka Metropolitan has been fixed at Tk 7,500 for Bangla medium and Tk 8,500 for English medium. In other metropolitan areas, the maximum is Tk 5,000 for Bangla and Tk 6,000 for English. At district level, the maximum is Tk 3,000 for Bangla and Tk 4,000 for English, while in upazila or suburban areas it is Tk 2,500 for Bangla and Tk 3,000 for English.

At the time of primary confirmation, students will have to pay a total of Tk 340 to the board. The amount includes Tk 142 as registration fee, Tk 50 sports fee, Tk 10 BNCC fee, Tk 15 Rover/Ranger fee, Tk 16 Red Crescent fee, Tk 7 science and technology fee, and Tk 100 for teacher welfare and retirement benefits.

The Ministry of Education said no institution will be allowed to issue transfer certificates or admit students without board approval. The ministry also warned that if students are admitted into unauthorised branches or subjects, a college’s permission to teach, recognition or MPO status could be cancelled.
