Six more people died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8:00am Saturday, pushing the combined death toll since March 15 to 708, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. No deaths from confirmed measles were recorded during the period.
The information was disclosed in the DGHS’s regular measles report published on Saturday. The report covered the period from 8:00am Friday to 8:00am Saturday.
According to the report, 615 people have died with measles symptoms and 93 have died from confirmed measles infections since March 15, bringing the total number of deaths to 708.
The DGHS said 744 more people developed measles symptoms across the country in the latest 24-hour period. Since March 15, the number of patients showing measles symptoms has risen to 98,266.
The health authority said 45 confirmed measles cases were identified in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, measles has been confirmed in 11,594 people nationwide, while 81,955 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospital.
Among those hospitalised with measles symptoms, 78,287 have recovered and been discharged, the DGHS said.
Among the six people who died with measles symptoms in the latest 24 hours, four were in Mymensingh division, while one death each was recorded in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions.
